MLS Cup Recap: Day Two: Creepin Seattle
Day Two of MLSCUPADVENTURE lead us to a breakfast place in downtown Bothell, which is about 15 minutes outside Seattle. Shawn and I had a lovely romantic breakfast which included us talking lots of shit to each other about pretty much every subject including: who was going to pay for the meal, whos meal would be better, why California is better then any other state, why Shawn's life is so great, why Seattle still sucks more then San Jose (MLS Cups sir, MLS Cups, let's count and compare) and other things that now escape me but seemed quite worthwhile. The big debate was how we both thought the Pina Colada pancakes looked quite tasty, however I manned up and ordered them while he hid in a corner and ordered blueberry pancakes. To both of our surprise, we each ended up with Blueberry Pineapple pancakes that were quite tasty, however I ended up victorious because mine came with delicious Coconut whip cream, and I would not share with poor Shawn.
From there we headed into Seattle after heading back to his place for me to put on another jacket, as my outdoor gear for the weekend was generally two shirts and two jackets, and it was still effing cold. We headed down into the underground of Seattle, which I did not know existed.
As we explored the past streets of Seattle that are now between 8 and 35 feet underground, we learned about why people in Seattle do things poorly but continue to stick with it, which is why they even have an underground. We didn't find the underground particularly size accommodating however, as fitting through the doorways or whatever you would call them was tight at times.
Occasionally we would pop out to the surface and pass some bars and restaurants. To say that the Sounders have made an impact on the city would be a gross understatement, as Sounders signs and gear were everywhere.
Back underground we headed and we saw some new things there including Seattle's first sewage pipe, made of wood. Now that just seems like a bad idea, and it certainly was.....
After we bounced out of the Underground we headed for Pike Place Market. Along the way we hit this sign, which I realllllllllly wanted to steal. Regretfully, I did not. It would have made an awesome poster on my wall for sure. I wonder if I contacted Seattle if I could get one somehow? (No really though, if you happen to work for the city of Seattle/know someone that does/have some way to get one of these, get at me)
We made it down to Pike Place, which is just a crazy ridiculous scene. Fish flying everywhere, and anything you wanted you could buy. It was nuts. I had always seen the fish act on TV, but in person it is pretty dope as those are not small fish. At all. The one we saw thrown could have hit the dude and knocked him out. Fortunately he caught it. I managed to catch some fish in their last position.
We continued perusing the market, and made two major stops. First was for honey sticks. Basically, if you have never had these before, they are tubes of honey that are flavored and they are so delicious. We knocked back a couple of those at a quarter each, and I wish I would have bought like fifteen dollars worth, they are just that tasty. Then we checked out some of the awesome art, primarily of the Seattle skyline at night. Shawn was tempted to pick one up and for good reason. This lead us to my first creeper episode of the weekend. I had the idea that I would try and take pictures of fans in Seattle. I was overwhelmed however, by how many people were out in force in RSL gear. We saw them everywhere Saturday, on our tour, in the market, doing everything that we were. At this point I had not purchased my bandwagoning RSL scarf, but I left the Bay with the intentions of becoming an RSL fan for the weekend, first, because I'm a huge Beckerman fan, just ask Chamo, the dreads a year ago were very Beckermanesque and second, because I hate all things LA. The first chant you learn as a Giants fan is BEAT LA BEAT LA so to say that was a theme running through my youth would be an understatement. As a big Quakes fan, that thought process reigns supreme today still. However, while perusing Pike we encountered our first LA fan, and she was quite impressive, rocking the scarf in full force. I managed to creep her and ask if I could take her picture, which Shawn made fun of me for most of the rest of the afternoon. Thanks to you miss, you are the true spirit of both the MLS and American soccer.
We headed down to the waterfront and I snapped a couple cool shots of the port that it looks out on. Seattle is pretty gorgeous, I was impressed.
The following pictures are included for Shawn, because he would not let me delete the first one. I promise I only creep this hard in pictures, and not real life.
Myself, a Pike piggy (a hidden one that not everyone knows about!) and Shawn kickin it Seattle style.
We cruised down the docks, and these guys had this ridiculous poster of Obama that I had to take a picture of just so I could laugh at them later. They saw me stop and take the pic, and decided to chat me up. The guy goes "There are only two things going on the world right now, Obama's bullshit and.." At that point I immediately cut him off and said "And the MLS Cup!" He goes WTF is that? I said midstride "If you don't know, don't bother finding out." Shawn and I busted up laughing for the next twenty minutes at his reaction, and the entire situation. Me:1 Weird Obama haters:0
We then found more awkward signs, most have little to no explanation necessary. Also, LOL John Travolta vampire.
Big ups to all the Seattle shop owners, especially the guy at Pier 57 I think it was, at the Sports Den. I was so impressed by all their MLS gear and snagged a Dynamo jersey shirt to support. Much love for Seattle and what they bring to the MLS, and the incredible support behind them from both fans and businesses.
Another set of poor fans that I creeped. We saw them a bunch in the piers and I finally asked them to take a picture. If you were in Seattle and I creeped you for a picture, I greatly apologize. They were legit RSL fans though, a great representation of the RSL crew.
And your WTF picture of the weekend. I just had to do it.
