AO President Korey Donahoo: The Interview

We promised you El Presidente of the American Outlaws, answers and the dirt on the VP. We gave you at least two of three. Or did we? You will have to read our target interview with Korey Donahoo, Cinco De Mustache aficionado.
Constantly Offside: Does your facial hair match the expertise of Justin's? Do I need to help you train to outgrow his marvelous mustache?
Korey Donahoo: Well I won the "Nice Try award" at the 5th annual Cinco De Mustache party last year by a vote, so if anything, I think I could show Justin a thing or two.
CO: Nice try award? If that is a nice try what does it take to win this mustachio bashio? Was Rollie Fingers invited? Tell us a little more about you...what you do, how much do you love Nebraska, why you love American Soccer, how many ladies you generally pull at a time?
KD: I'm a civil engineer, living and designing highways in Lincoln, NE. The combination of such a sexy job at such a sexy location allows me to pull ladies pretty effectively, along with my love of spreadsheets.
CO: When I think sexy, I think spreadsheets. For your sake, I hope a lot of ladies do the same. What exactly do you do for the American Outlaws? Was winning the coinflip for president the biggest coinflip you have ever won? Tell us an embarrassing story about Justin since he won't give us any dirt on you and it will solidify you as the fan favorite with Constantly Offside....
KD: Winning the presidency was pretty key for me in my bid to take over the world. Insulting and walking all over Justin has become a new hobby of mine. And I have absolutely no dirt on Justin, he has yet to make a mistake. Maybe he should be president.
CO: What is your vision for AO long term?
KD: Hoping to get to the point where loud, all standing fans are the majority at games. We hope to do that by making people have fun at the games, and hoping it will grow organically.
CO: I love this train of thought. The best way to get someone to come back is make sure they had a good time the first time around and felt the passion. One of my favorite things about AO. Your favorite thing about American soccer fans?
KD: The vast majority are super chill and you can walk right up and talk to them.
CO: What has been your favorite part of watching AO grow?
KD: Feeling like we are helping grow US Soccer for the better. US fans showed in 2006 that we are starting to become a force, and I think AO is contributing mightily in a positive way.
CO: The best USMNT game you have been to and why? Something that US soccer games have that no other sporting event does?
KD: Either US v Mexico qualifier in Columbus in '05, or US v Italy in '06. Probably the Italy game in the World Cup, because it was such a grudge match. It felt more raw than any other game I've been to.
CO: Chamo here, do you think Bob Bradley (affectionately known as Bad Decision Bob) has what it takes for a successful 2010?
KD: Yes and no. It depends on your definition of successful. I think we can get out of our group with Bob. I also think he is the best man for the job (realistically) and has been for 4 years. However, I don’t think, tactically, we could win a world cup with him.
CO: What are your thoughts on the group that the US drew?
KD: Not as easy as some are making it out to be. I really worry about Slovenia. To beat a Hiddink coached Russia is no joke.
CO: What are you most scared of heading to South Africa in terms of real life...and are you just following the US or seeing other games? Trying to catch any extracurricular activities?
KD: Our WC package has a bunch of extra options, and I'll be doing a lot of them. I'm most looking forward to playing a friendly down there against a South African club team, as I'm lightning quick and a midfield dynamo (sarcasm). I do worry about the crime and general safety, being that we will be in Joburg, but I think we'll be alright as long as we make smart decisions. Now I sound like Bob Bradley.
CO: Chamo again, thoughts on Jose Francisco Torres, Edgar Castillo and Jermaine Jones?
KD: I love Torres. I think it takes some stones to play for us when you start in the Mexican league. Jermaine Jones can F off. Which I will probably say until he scores for us or something, but I'm generally against him ever playing for us. I'm not sure Castillo is good enough to even worry about at this point.
CO: If people wanted to participate in AO outside of just joining a chapter, what can they do? Where does the AO mother ship need help?
KD: Volunteering to help run the chapter is always welcome. Getting your chapter into media outlets and getting some recognition is a plus too. Honestly, in the last push before the world cup, we're just trying to keep up. We'll step back after the WC and take stock.
CO: Anything you want to get out to the world/the American soccer fan/our limited reader base?
KD: Just want to thank everyone over the last 3 years who we've met or worked with or who are supporting us and the US. We feel like U.S. Soccer is on a SOLID foundation and I am really excited for where our team is headed.
The best way to show support for our team is to get on board. Considering it costs a pittance at $15 to join the most powerful USMNT fan organization in the world, you too can be a bandana-wearing baller.
